DAVE LOCKHART

Hi, I’m Dave Lockhart, a musician, dad, and teacher. I’ve spent over two decades immersed in music, from touring Europe with jazz groups and the U.S. with my former band, Dead Winter Carpenters, to recording on nearly 30 albums—some with the band, others under my own name, and many other collaborative projects. The process of crafting and recording albums has always been one of my greatest joys.

Teaching has been another cornerstone of my career. For the past 20 years, I’ve taught in various settings, including private studios, my own home studio, and now, in public schools in Orange, NJ. I thoroughly enjoy creating exercises and writing arrangements that inspire my students to connect with music in meaningful ways.

Originally from Louisiana, I’ve lived in Texas, California (for 20 years), and now New Jersey, where I perform regularly with a handful of local bands: Widely Grown, Sad Cowboy, The Lazy Sky, Mythology, and Chewing the Fat. Although I stepped back from touring after having kids, I still enjoy short runs with Widely Grown and staying active in the local music scene.

These days, my time revolves around my two amazing little boys, teaching, and continuing to share my love for music—whether in the classroom, on stage, or in the studio.
